Removing and maintaining phone numbers

It is strongly recommended that the list of phone numbers be kept current and accurate at all times. This article explains how to remove phone numbers from Number Registration. In Hiya Connect, go to Number Registration → Phone numbers. This is different from the Phone numbers page under Branded Call.

Choose the removal method based on the result you want:

  • Selecting numbers from the Registration phone numbers list and clicking Remove numbers removes them from your account. They will no longer be registered, and any active Branded Call service for those numbers will stop.
  • Selecting Add/Remove numbers → Remove via upload unregisters the numbers from Number Registration. Branded numbers remain branded.

Removing numbers from the Registration phone numbers list

To remove a phone number or numbers from the phone numbers list:

  1. Select "Phone numbers" under Number Registration in the console.
  2. Click on the checkbox next to the phone number(s) you wish to remove. You can use the search features to find the phone numbers.
  3. Once all are selected, click the "Remove numbers" button.
  4. Review the removal summary, then confirm the removal.

Removing selected numbers this way removes them from your account. They will no longer be registered, and any active Branded Call service for those numbers will stop.

Removing via file upload

To remove all unbranded phone numbers listed in a file:

  1. Select "Phone numbers" under Number Registration in the console.
  2. Click on "Add/Remove numbers".
  3. Click on "Remove via upload".
  4. Drag a properly formatted CSV file into the upload area, or click "Or browse your computer" and choose the file. Include the country code with each phone number.
  5. Optionally, enter a job name for this removal, up to 40 characters. Use a recognizable name that will help you identify the numbers later.
  6. Click "Begin upload."

The CSV file should contain one phone number per line, including the country code, with no additional data. The file can contain up to 500,000 numbers and must be 10 MB or smaller. A header will be ignored, as will any phone numbers that are not currently registered in your account.

Unbranded numbers removed using the file upload will no longer be registered to your business. Branded numbers will remain branded.

Keeping your list current

A few tips to help keep your registered phone number list accurate over time:

  • If useful, group related phone numbers under an optional, recognizable job name. For example, upload numbers from the same originating location (such as "New York office") or with the same call purpose (such as "Customer support lines") in one job. This can make the numbers easier to find and update later.
  • Add new phone numbers regularly. If your business expands and adds additional numbers, be sure to register those numbers.
  • Update only the phone numbers that have changed whenever possible. If you need to unregister an entire set while retaining its existing branding, use Remove via upload before uploading the new list. Removing selected numbers directly from the Registration phone numbers list can stop Branded Call for those numbers. Review the removal summary before confirming.
